Balkhash City Museum of History and Local Lore

Its exhibitions are divided into several profound sections: 1. Nature and Ecology Hall: This section showcases the unique ecosystem of Lake Balkhash. It features taxidermy displays of animals and birds inhabiting the shoreline and reed beds, such as swans, pelicans, and wild boars. Additionally, there is a vast collection of rare minerals and ore samples found in the surrounding steppe. 2. Archaeology and Ethnography Hall: The highlight of the museum is the collection of petroglyphs (rock carvings) discovered in the Bektau-Ata mountain range. These ancient carvings offer a glimpse into the spiritual life of prehistoric inhabitants. The ethnography section displays traditional Kazakh nomadic life, featuring yurt interior decorations, intricate silver jewelry, and national costumes. 3. Karaganda Mining and Industrial Museum

The Museum-Mine is located at the Karaganda Mining and Industrial College and is a unique educational and tourist attraction. It is a real training mine situated underground at a depth of about 15 meters, fully simulating actual coal mining conditions. Machinery and Equipment: The drifts feature operating mechanisms, including tunneling and mining combines, trolleys, belt conveyors, and support systems. Karaganda Regional Museum of Fine Arts

The museum is one of the leading cultural centers of the region and the only museum of its kind in Central Kazakhstan. Museum of Memory of Victims of Political Repressions (KarLag)

The museum was opened in 2002 in Dolinka village, located in the historic building of the former Headquarters of the Karaganda Labor Camp (Karlag). Built by prisoners, this neoclassical building now houses exhibitions documenting one of the largest camps in the Soviet GULAG system. Key Exhibits: History of Karlag: Documents and maps illustrating the scale of the repression, the camp’s administration, and prisoner demographics. Investigation and Confinement: The basement features reconstructed prison cells, interrogation rooms, and punishment cells. Life-size wax figures realistically depict the suffering of prisoners. Women and Children: A heartbreaking section dedicated to the "wives of traitors" and their children. The nearby "Mamochkino" cemetery serves as a memorial to the infants who perished in the camp.
